Indian Health Services (IHS)

The Indian Health Services Albuquerque Area is responsible for the provision of health services to 27 distinctly different tribal groups. The administrative headquarters across the Area care via five hospitals, eleven health centers, and twelve field clinics, which deliver care at the community level. Addition, the Albuquerque Areas has two specialized care facilities. Native youth suffering from substance abuse problems, New Sunrise Regional Treatment Center (NSPRTC), provides residential treatment services. The Albuquerque Indian Dental Clinic (AIDC) provides dental care for children, teens, and young adults (up to 26).

The Indian Pueblo Cultural Center preserves and perpetuates Pueblo culture and to advance understanding by presenting with dignity and respect the accomplishments and evolving history of the Pueblo people of New Mexico.

Native Health Initiative (NHI)

Native Health Initiative has four principles that guide loving service: 1) educating future health care providers to the health issues and disparities facing the American Indian population through holistic model of health; 2) Providing concrete, sustainable benefits to the communities involved through tribe-directed projects; 3) Supporting students and host communities to engage in meaningful cultural exchange, beyond the cultural competency; and 4) Empowering American Indian youth through mentoring and leadership training.
